The longevity ritual

Make itlast.

LXPERFUME extrait de parfum bottle, matte black with a gold LX label

Five rules that genuinely extend wear time, and the one thing that outweighs all five.

Why it fades

Nothing stings like a beautiful fragrance that has vanished by lunch. Most of the fix costs nothing: where you spray, what your skin is doing when you do, and where the bottle sleeps.

The five rules

Five rules. Zero cost.

Moisturize first.

Fragrance holds onto oil, not onto dry skin. Unscented lotion or a little balm on the pulse points thirty seconds before you spray is the cheapest extra hour you will ever buy.

+1 to 2 hours

Spray skin, then the collar.

Fabric grips the top notes and holds them still, which is why a scent on a scarf smells the same at hour six as at minute one. Skin lets a fragrance move through its stages. Skin for the story, a little on the collar for the trail.

Story and trail

Warm points that stay covered.

Base of the neck, inside the wrists, inside the elbows. Warmth lifts the scent upward; a collar or a sleeve slows how fast it leaves. Open skin in a breeze is the fastest way to lose it.

Neck, wrists, elbows

Never rub your wrists.

Rubbing is friction and heat, and it tears through the lightest molecules first. You are not working it in, you are deleting the opening. Spray, then let the air do it.

Keep the opening

Keep it out of the bathroom.

Heat, light and steam are what age a fragrance; a bottle on a sunny windowsill can turn in a season. A closed drawer, somewhere cool and dark, and it holds true for years. Not the fridge either: cold-to-warm cycling is its own stress.

Cool, dark, closed
Two sprays. A full day. Four is a room · that is what 30% oil does
The rule that beats every trick

Concentration decides the day.

Technique buys an hour or two. How much real fragrance oil is in the bottle decides everything else. The whole category, on one chart:

Fragrance concentration and wear time
TypeFragrance oilOn skin
Eau de cologne2–4%2–4 hours
Eau de toilette5–15%4–6 hours
Eau de parfum15–20%6–8 hours
Extrait de parfum (LXPERFUME)30%6–8 hours and into the evening

Most of what sells for $120 to $325 at a department-store counter is an eau de parfum. We blend at extrait strength instead, and spend nothing on the counter.

The honest answer

If your fragrance keeps disappearing, it is rarely your skin and rarely your technique. You were sold 5–15% oil in a heavy bottle. Fix the concentration, and every rule above starts compounding instead of rescuing.
